Fast Company Magazine just released a story on the twenty fastest cities in the world. “Fast” as defined by opportunity, ability to attract creative and innovative people, and hubs of the best and most progressive ideas.
Cities in the US on the list include San Fran, NYC, Chi-town, Portland, Austin (the “Keep Austin weird” campaign worked I guess), and Miami.
Some interesting findings…
-- For the first time ever, more people are living in cities than in rural areas.
-- Miami made the cut, and was highlighted in the category of cultural centers with Barcelona, Spain and Dakar, Senegal. It is cool to realize that the culture we influence (or create) impacts the world.
-- They admitted that living in a fast city has major drawbacks (crazy cost of living, congestion, city frustrations, crime). I read earlier today that parking places in NYC are going for 250,000.
I think it is cool to live in one of the 20th Fastest Cities in the world. I saw a benefit this week.
Wednesday, we had a design-build firm (MGA) in to meet with some of our staff about the future Homestead facility. We need to get some conceptual plans for the zoning change application. We met for an 1.5 hour tossing out ideas/needs for the facility, but with the knowledge that we are going to have to be savvy as we only have 4.8 acres to work with. On the way to the airport the guys from the design-build firm made the following comments: “Very sharp staff” …“Fun and creative group”…”Focused team.”
Over half of the team grew up in Miami and has been hired from within the church. It is an honor to see the creative and innovative energy of our people unleashed to make an impact for the kingdom... to transform the culture…to transform the world.
